Datuk Michael Tang, Executive Chairman
Mr Tang (aged 42) is Executive Chairman of the Company's largest shareholder, Polo Resources Limited and is the principal of Mettiz Capital Limited, an investment company with significant corporate and financial experience in natural resources, power generation, manufacturing and real estate. Mr. Tang qualified as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Mr Tang was conferred with the Distinguished Order for Meritorious Service ("Panglima Jasa Negara") which carries the honorific title of "Datuk" by His Majesty The King of Malaysia. The award was a recognition of his invaluable service and contribution to the nation.
James Hobson, Finance Director and Company Secretary
James is the Finance Director and Company Secretary of GCM and has been with the Company since July 2006. James has 17 years finance and corporate experience, predominantly in mining and international development. He is a director in GCMs subsidiaries and previously held directorships in private non-listed businesses. James is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Nik Raof Daud, Non-Executive Director
Mr. Daud (aged 54) commenced his career in the mining and oil and gas industries in Asia, and subsequently transitioned to industrial products in Europe. His more than 30 years experience covers both technical and corporate roles at senior management level. He is an Associate of the Royal School of Mines and holds a B.Sc. (Eng.) with First Class Honours in Mining from Imperial College London. Raof attended a 1 year postgraduate course in Control Engineering and Operational Research at the University of Cambridge and programmes at INSEAD, France and Manchester Business School, England.
Gary Lye, Chief Operating Officer, GCM and Chief Executive Officer, AECB
Gary is the Chief Operating Officer of GCM and Chief Executive Officer of GCM's subsidiary, Asia Energy Corporation (Bangladesh) Pty Ltd and has been with the Phulbari Coal Project since January 2004. Gary led the exploration programme and Feasibility Study. He is a qualified geologist and geotechnical engineer with a Master's Degree in Rock Mechanics from the Royal School of Mines in London and has over 39 years experience in the mining industry. Gary previously held senior mining positions with several leading mining companies. This included roles as Strategic Mine Development Manager with Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines at their Super Pit operations in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, and as Manager of Mining Research for CRA in Perth, Western Australia.
M. Anwarul Islam, General Manager Environment and Community
Anwar, a Bangladesh citizen, holds a Master's in Engineering from the former USSR and has undertaken higher education in environmental management in the USA, Japan, and India. Anwar has over 30 years' technical and managerial experience in the development, environmental and natural resource sectors dealing with various government and non-government organisations and international agencies. Previously he worked 10 years as a Senior Government Official in the Department of Environment, Bangladesh, in addition to three years as head of Bangladesh Country Office of IUCN - the World Conservation Union, Switzerland.
