Gerard joined the Company as Chairman following a distinguished career with Barclays Group where he worked for over 20 years. In his last role as Managing Director and Global Head of Mining and Metals, he was instrumental in building Barclays Capital into a leading position in the Mining and Metals community around the world. Prior to that Gerard was Director of Derivative Finance at Barclays Capital. British-born Gerard has a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from University College London and he is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Steve has had a distinguished career in the resources industry developing and operating a total of fourteen large-scale open pit mining operations. Before joining GCM in January 2006, he was Chief Operating Officer for Rio Tinto Coal Australia. In this position Steve oversaw seven mining operations, producing sixty million tonnes of saleable coal a year. He was previously General Manager Operations for Robe River Mining, which subsequently became a subsidiary of Rio Tinto in 2000. He was also General Manager, Mine Operations, for Hamersley Iron Limited and General Manager at Mount Isa Mines in both Mining and Metallurgical Operations. His position at Robe River Mining included management of both the port and rail facilities.
Steve has a B.Sc.in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics from Portsmouth University and a M.Sc. in Rock Mechanics and Excavation Engineering from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University. He is a Fellow of both the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Management. Steve is also a Director of Coal of Africa Limited.
Bill is a widely respected mining engineer with thirty-five years international experience who has played a key role in mining projects in Colombia, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Argentina, India and Australia. The majority of his career has been involved with open cut coal mining developments, and he has lived and worked in Asia for more than ten years, including being General Manager - Mining and Acting Managing Director for PT Kaltim Prima Coal - now the largest coal mining enterprise in Indonesia. Bill has a mining engineering degree from the University of Melbourne and a M.Sc. in Mining from Queen's University in Canada. He is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy as well as being a Chartered Professional (Management).
Graham is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 25 years experience in the resources industry. Prior to joining GCM, Graham was Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary for Rio Tinto Coal Australia, where he was responsible for a group producing some sixty million tonnes per annum of thermal and coking coal. He was previously General Manager Commercial and Chief Financial Officer for PT Kaltim Prima Coal (producing twenty million tonnes of thermal coal per annum), and before that he was Director Finance for PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (producing five hundred thousand oz of gold per annum), both Indonesian based.
In the past decade Stephen Dattels has helped to form and finance a number of mining ventures, including UraMin Inc, which was sold for approximately US$2.5 billion in cash in summer 2007. Previously, he was an executive at Barrick Gold Corporation during its formative years when it grew from a capital base of $10 million to a market capitalisation of $2 billion when he left in early 1987. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University, a law degree (cum laude) from the University of Western Ontario and has completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard University.
Stephen is currently the Executive Chairman of Polo Resources Limited, which owns 29.8% of the current issued share capital of GCM and of which GCM owns 3.9% of the current issued share capital.
Greg has worked in the mining industry for many years and in addition to his commercial expertise he has experience of developing comprehensive community programmes and managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. He was previously CEO of Central Rand Gold Limited including the period of significant growth leading up to its listing on the London Stock Exchange in November 2007. Previously he held a number of roles with Glencore including Chief Financial Officer of its Coal Division.
Richard is a qualified Chartered Accountant with 15 years experience in senior finance roles in multi-national organisations. He worked for Rio Tinto for 11 years during which time he had experience in performance reporting, financial control, decision support and investor relations. He has also worked for the Tarmac Group and more recently was the Finance Director of OctopusTravel.com. Richard has a degree in Mathematics from Imperial College London.
Julia, a British national, holds a MA in International Relations and a BA in International Business Administration and has 11 years experience in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Prior to joining GCM Resources plc, she worked at the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation and the UK Department for International Development where she worked with business, governments and non-governmental organisations on improving the development impact of private sector investments in developing countries.
Gary is a qualified geologist and geotechnical engineer with a Master's Degree in Rock Mechanics from the Royal School of Mines in London. He previously held senior mining positions with several leading mining companies. This included roles as Strategic Mine Development Manager with Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines at their Super Pit operations in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, and as Manager of Mining Research for CRA in Perth, Western Australia.
Nazrul holds a Master's with Honours in Economics from the Rajshahi University and is a graduate of the National Defence College (NDC), Bangladesh. Nazrul has undertaken higher education in Public Administration, Industrial Management and Information Communication Technology in the UK, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Germany. Nazrul has over 34 years' technical and managerial experience in the Bangladesh Civil Service in a number of capacities. Prior to joining Asia Energy in 2007 he was an Additional Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and Executive Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) Bangladesh. Nazrul also served as a member in a number of Joint Economic Commissions formed with China, India, Malaysia and Bahrain. He is a Fellow of the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS).
Mushfiqur, a Bangladesh citizen, is a qualified Mining Engineer, with a PhD in technical sciences from the former USSR where he carried out research and worked on various mine sites. He previously held the position of Deputy Project Manager of BHP and has been associated with the Phulbari Coal Project for 12 years. Mushfiq is responsible for relations with the Bangladesh government and for all Bangladesh field operations.
Anwar, a Bangladesh citizen, holds a Master's in Engineering from the former USSR and has undertaken higher education in environmental management in the USA, Japan, and India. Anwar has over 24 years' technical and managerial experience in the development, environmental and natural resource sectors dealing with various government and non-government organisations and international agencies. Previously he worked 10 years as a Senior Government Official in the Department of Environment, Bangladesh, in addition to three years as head of Bangladesh Country Office of IUCN - the World Conservation Union, Switzerland.
Deepu, a Bangladesh citizen, holds a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the former USSR. He previously worked with BHP as a Field Manager and Logistics Officer for the Phulbari Coal Project. He also has six years' experience in the manufacturing industry in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
